| Volunteer Income Tax Assistance |
Agency: Volunteer Broward
Description:
You don't need to have a knack for figures or an accounting degree, just a desire to help thousands of needy individuals prepare their tax returns. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is looking for volunteers to participate in its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in Broward County. VITA has been one of the IRS most visible public service programs, helping thousands of low-income individuals annually prepare simple tax returns and claim the Earned Income Tax Credit. The VITA program relies almost exclusively on volunteers. Volunteers receive free tax law and tax preparation software training coordinated by the IRS.
A typical VITA volunteer prepares simple tax returns for just a few hours on one or two days each week and/or a few hours on Saturdays during February, March and April. The IRS will work with your schedule, on whatever days are convenient for you. Now is the perfect time to give back to the local community by assisting at one of the many VITA sites located throughout Broward County.
Your information will be stored in our prospective volunteer database and you will be contacted in November when our training schedule has been finalized. Please note that you must attend all five sessions in order to be certified. If you have any other questions about this volunteer opportunity, please feel free to contact Kathy Wint at kathyamericorps@volbrow.org or (954) 233-1300. We look forward to helping you, help others.
